Reportage wedding photography
What is it?
Reportage wedding photography developed from the journalistic style often called 'photojournalism'. Reportage photos are not posed and are often taken without the subject even being aware of it.
It has become the most popular approach to modern wedding photography, especially for wedding couples who want to enjoy their day as it unfolds naturally, without undue interference from the photographer and without having to stage too many events just for photographs.
Relaxed ...
Time flies when you're having fun, they say, and so it will seem on your wedding day. All the more reason then not to spend it worrying about an exhaustive photography schedule or missing too much of the day holding poses! Enjoy the company of your guests, make the most of every magical minute and your photos will be all the better for it.
Natural ...
With a photographer who stays in the background, almost as an onlooker, and not giving directions all the time your photos will show you, your friends and family behaving naturally, just being yourselves. No wooden poses or forced smiles here!
Fun ...
Let's face it, weddings are supposed to be fun! And with all the happiness that surrounds a wedding fun just happens naturally, because people are enjoying themselves. Reportage photography is in its element here, because the best photos of people having fun are those where they don't even realise their picture is being taken.
But what about ...?
... those extra special photos of the bride and groom, sometimes dramatic, sometimes artistic or simply perfectly romantic, and which are often taken in unusual, dramatic or quirky locations? Will I miss out on those if my wedding day is covered in the reportage style?
That might be true if the entire wedding photography was restricted to just the reportage style, so most couples choose to set aside a little bit of time out of their day for such contemporary photography, as it's often called.
This is why I use a combination of reportage wedding photography and other styles of wedding photography, both contemporary and traditional, to give you the best of all worlds. My approach is unobtrusive and naturalistic, capturing your day with creative and artistic flair.
